Pediatric patients at children’s hospitals in both of the Carolinas and their families have new interactive, child-friendly spaces in which to regroup and relax thanks to a $600,000 gift from Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. Over a three year period starting in 2012, North and South Carolina credit unions raised $600,000 to fund extensive renovation projects in each state. In North Carolina, the Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte has a new rooftop garden that serves as a playground and retreat for children and their families who find themselves at the hospital. Similarly in South Carolina, the 1,900-square-foot lobby was transformed from a standard hospital lobby to one that looks like an underwater adventure.
By making this space more child-friendly, we are giving our patients and their families a place to have fun and be themselves during a difficult and stressful time,” said Dr. Bill Schmidt, medical director of GHS Children’s Hospital. “We are grateful to Carolina credit unions for recognizing the importance of not only treating the patient but the well-being of the entire family.”
